Hotjar is one of the best website optimization tools that’s out on the market today. It is a combination of analytics and feedback tools that make it easy for you to identify the user activity on your website and track any problems that might appear.

It will help you gather both quantitative and qualitative data for actionable ideas like fixing content and other modifications. You can gain access to its great set of tools for just a small price.

Pros

  • Unlimited – This is a standout for me, there are no restrictions when it comes to number of your websites assessed or the number of users.
  • Good Set of Tools – a set of web optimization tools on one platform. You have the option not to subscribe to many CRO software products because you can get most of the tools you will need to assess your website’s performance.
  • Good Pricing – Aside from it offers a free plan, HotJar is not costly at all, so it lends itself to small businesses, freelancers and anyone who wants to use the service without putting it beyond their budget. On their paid plans, they have a pretty competitive price offer which cost significantly less than when using multiple vendors.

Cons

  • Still New in the Business – it is still in the startup phase.They do not have the years of experience and huge customer support systems that their major competitors do. For instance, Survey Monkey has clients like Samsung and Facebook.
  • No Mobile App Yet – they don’t have an existing mobile app yet to monitor its services.There is no option for finding in-depth comparative analysis of visitor behavior using desktop/laptop vs mobile users.

HotJar makes it very fast and affordable to capture information. How do they do it? HotJar uses snapshot reports and sampling in data collection then utilizes a proprietary sampling engine that distributes these snapshots. Its services have been made officially available early this year. Let me share my experience in using this product. I have been using it for quite a while now, and I do think it deserves a review. Let’s take a quick view on what it does.

HeatMaps – This tool visually lets you uncover what most of your visitors are clicking on your site. Personally, I think this is one of the coolest and useful features of HotJar. You will find out what texts, image or posts are working well in your site not by guessing but by visually observing your user’s clicking patterns.

You can create as many heat maps you want, target any URL on your site and examine the user interaction. As it shows you areas mostly clicked on your blog or website, you will have the opportunity to improve the content. You will have a clearer guide on what your site users care about and do on your sites – which are big indicators of their motivation and desire. If you learn to use it properly, you are surely on the road to success.

Visitors Playback – HotJar is capable of letting you see on-screen recording video of your readers’ computer or mobile devices. It makes it easier for you to identify usability issues of your site by seeing your visitor’s actual clicks, taps, and other activities.

This tool lets you analyze thought and reading patterns of your site visitors. For instance, what are they attracted to on your blog? You can filter these recordings based on the landing page, date, visit duration, location, OS, browsers, devices, etc.

Conversion Funnels – It is a tool that lets you find out, in particular, the biggest opportunities for improvement as it helps you identify which among the pages and steps cause your visitors to leave your site.

You can set off your poll in four different events: immediately after your page loads, when there’s a few seconds delay, when a user is about to abandon the page or when the site visitor scrolls down the page.

Form Analytics – So far, I have only briefly experimented with this feature, but it is a great tool, too. It analyzes your form to see which fields take too long to complete, which field are left blank and why visitors abandon your form.

It will show you a form analysis report with details like drop off graph; time spent filling out a field, successful and failed form submission. It is an important tool to improve your online form completion rates.

Recruit User Testers – This feature allows you to find the best possible participants for user research and testing directly from your site.You’ll have the same targeting options as with Feedback Polls and collect profiling information, contact details and offer a gift in exchange for their help.

You can get the profile information like name, age, city, email, contact number. Information like country,d evice, browser, operating system are automatically captured.

You have several options to enjoy HotJar’s services. You can sign up for a free account. It does not require a credit card; you can create an account by filling out a form.

You will be asked to include your role – ex. Writer etc. but you may just choose the category “others” if you don’t want to reveal your role. You can also choose to enter your organization name or just write a general organization name. You will be required to enter your site URL and country. Then in a few seconds, you will be directed to your HotJar profile and show you options if you prefer to upgrade your plan.

The basic subscription is free but of course, limited. The next is the professional plan that starts at $29 USD per month. It gives unlimited insights for less than $1 a day. The next higher level subscription is the Business plan. This package is suited for organizations with high traffic.
